About

Metal-Aid is a Marie Skłodowska Curie Innovative Training Network (ITN), which is funded by the European Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. The project is designed to address the problems of contaminated water sites across Europe. It is a partnership of 6 universities, 4 consulting companies and a government agency, from Denmark, Germany, Britain, Spain and Iceland. The project has started on July 1, 2016 and runs for four years. Over the course of the project, Metal-Aid will train 14 Early Stage Researchers (ESRs).
The goal is to develop a new in situ method for remediating contaminated soil and groundwater, so that the activities on the land surface (e.g. houses, schools and businesses) are not disturbed. The target contaminant types are organic solvents and heavy metals and the reactants are based on natural occurring minerals.
